I used to be one of those people who hated Valentine’s Day. Tacky cards and everyone being mushy on Facebook… gross, right? Then 3 years ago my husband and I got married the day after Valentine’s day so now I have a little more appreciation for that day and couples in love.
This year I wanted to do a “Sweethearts Special Giveaway” to celebrate a day of love as well as Leibfarth Photography reaching 1,000 likes on Facebook. Savannah won the free session and shared it with her boyfriend, Jack.
This was another special session for me as Savannah and I were best friends growing up. We were attached at the hip through middle school and high school. From the awkward stages of middle school all the way through our early college party years (sorry mom) this girl was there by my side (sometimes even in a matching outfit). She brought out the “loud” in me. We have had thousands of sleepovers, hundreds of antique shopping trips, gone to countless school dances, and seen each other through every crappy high school boyfriend and break-up. So how cool is it that all these years later, even after we’ve lost touch I get to come photograph her and her boyfriend and see her happier than ever.
(Here are some awkward photos of us...)
I met them at Potter’s Lake on KU Campus. First of all it is GORGEOUS. Even in winter without lots of green it is such a pretty area. Secondly, Savannah & Jack were also GORGEOUS. She made a joke that they looked like a catalog couple and as I went through their session I realized she was totally right! They both (or at least I like to believe…) had a good time with the session, they interacted well and made poses their own. I could tell being around them how good they are together. What was supposed to be a quick “mini” session turned into a little over an hour of shooting and so many good images to choose from! I think even if you didn’t know them you can see there is such a genuine connection between them in these portraits! Enjoy :)
